Govt. is determined to ensure the use of Information Commission Act in public welfare: Information Secretary
International Right to Information Day is celebrated to raise public awareness about the Right to Information Act. Information and Broadcasting Ministry Additional Secretary (Routine Duties of Secretary) Md Nazrul Islam said that the government is determined to ensure the use of the law for public welfare by reforming the Information Commission.
The secretary expressed his determination while speaking at a discussion meeting organized on the occasion of 'International Right to Information Day 2024' at the auditorium of Information Commission Bangladesh on Saturday (September 28).
This year's theme of the day is- “Ensuring the mainstreaming of the right to information and the participation of the public sector."
Nazrul Islam said that Right to Information Act has been enacted to ensure free flow of information and people's right to information. Right to Information Act is one of the tools to establish a happy prosperous, welfare state ensuring good governance by ensuring transparency, accountability, rule of law and participation of all.
While speaking as a special guest, the executive director of TIB Dr. Iftekharuzzaman said, the capacity of the organization needs to be increased by increasing the manpower of the Information Commission. He called for reforming the Information Commission and amending the existing Right to Information Act.
The main article in the meeting was presented by the Director General of the Department of Primary Education Dr. Md Ah Hakim. Director of Information Commission Bangladesh SM Kamrul Islam presided over the event while the heads and representatives of various government and private organizations, academicians and invited guests including journalists attended.
